Hours: Monday – Friday 8.30am to 5pm

At Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, our mission is to transform whānau through education and create pathways that uplift communities across Aotearoa. As our new Assistant - Operations & Maintenance, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our campuses are safe, welcoming, functional, and ready to support the success of our tauira, kaimahi, and manuhiri every day.  

Reporting to the Manager - Operations, you'll provide hands-on support across facilities, maintenance, campus operations, fleet coordination, contractor management, and asset oversight. This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who enjoys practical problem-solving, takes pride in maintaining high standards, and thrives in a dynamic operational environment.  

 

In this role, you will: 

  • Coordinate and monitor reactive and planned maintenance activities across campus sites.  
  • Help deliver preventative maintenance programmes that support the long-term condition and performance of campus assets.  
  • Ensure facilities, grounds, and learning environments are maintained to high standards of safety, functionality, presentation, and compliance.  
  • Support fleet operations by coordinating vehicle servicing, repairs, and maintenance activities.  
  • Assist with campus reconfigurations, storage operations, logistics, and operational readiness activities.  
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and service providers to ensure quality service delivery and timely completion of work.  
  • Maintain accurate records, track maintenance requests, and contribute to operational reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.  
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for facility-related queries, building strong relationships with kaimahi and stakeholders.

You're a practical, proactive, and solutions-focused professional who enjoys rolling up your sleeves and getting things done. You can confidently juggle multiple priorities, communicate effectively with a wide range of people, and take ownership of delivering quality outcomes. 

To be successful in this role, you'll bring: 

  • A current Full New Zealand Driver Licence (Class 1). 
  • Experience in facilities, maintenance, property, asset, or operational coordination environments.  
  • Practical experience using small machinery and maintenance equipment safely, such as drills and water blasters.  
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands and coordinate activities across multiple sites.  
  • Experience working with contractors and service providers.  
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety practices within operational environments. 
  • Confidence using digital systems to monitor, record, and report maintenance and operational activities. 
  • The practical capability to undertake basic maintenance tasks and safely move or manoeuvre items up to 20kg. 
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.  

 

We are seeking someone who values and embraces te ao Māori and is willing to actively participate in cultural practices and events, including pōwhiri, karakia, and Te Whāriki. You'll also be open to growing your knowledge and everyday use of te reo Māori while upholding the values and kaupapa of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.
