The Aukaha Ako – Takiwā Delivery is a key senior leadership role responsible for leading and overseeing educational delivery across a large takiwā spanning Taranaki, Hawke's Bay and the lower North Island through to Te Waipounamu. Reporting to the Paemanu (Director) Ako Takiwā Delivery, you will provide strategic and operational leadership that drives ako excellence, tauira success, quality outcomes and sustainable growth across the region.
Leading a team of educational leaders and working closely with the Takiwā Senior Leadership Team, you will ensure teaching and learning, assessment, academic administration and quality assurance activities are delivered consistently and effectively, while maintaining compliance with organisational and regulatory requirements.
Key areas of focus include:
- Strategic leadership: Developing and delivering regional educational plans that align with organisational priorities, support growth and achieve learner success outcomes.
- Academic performance and quality: Monitoring academic performance, retention, completion and graduation outcomes while leading continuous improvement initiatives that enhance educational excellence.
- Educational delivery: Providing oversight of teaching, learning, assessment and academic administration practices to ensure high-quality programme delivery.
- People leadership: Leading and developing educational leaders and kaimahi, fostering a high-performing culture grounded in Ngā Uara and Te Kaupapa Matua.
- Innovation and improvement: Championing innovative projects, pilot programmes and initiatives that strengthen educational delivery and future capability.
- Risk, compliance and reporting: Ensuring robust governance, compliance, reporting and risk management practices that protect the integrity and reputation of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.
- Regional leadership: Contributing as a member of the Takiwā Leadership Team, providing leadership across wider operational, strategic and organisational priorities.

You are a highly experienced educational leader with a passion for learner success and a proven ability to deliver strategic and operational outcomes across complex educational environments.
You bring significant experience leading managers, developing high-performing teams and driving quality educational outcomes across diverse locations. You are an influential relationship builder who works collaboratively with colleagues, tauira, iwi, hapū, communities and external stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
To be successful, you will likely bring:
- A Master's qualification in Education, Educational Leadership or a related field.
- At least seven years' experience in a senior educational leadership role.
- Leadership experience within the tertiary education sector, including oversight of teaching and learning delivery.
- Experience leading large or geographically dispersed teams.
- Strong experience in academic quality assurance, educational performance monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement.
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic and operational plans.
- Strong analytical and data-informed decision-making capability.
- Experience managing organisational risk, compliance and performance outcomes.
- Excellent communication, relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A commitment to coaching, mentoring and developing others.
You will be comfortable working within Te Ao Māori and embracing the kaupapa, values and aspirations of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. An ability to use Te Reo Māori is advantageous, and a willingness to continue developing your cultural capability is essential.
