Based at Mangakōtukutuku Campus in Hamilton, this is a fixed-term, full-time role (37.5hrs per week), which includes delivering face-to-face class learning, 3 days a week from 9am – 3pm, starting in June 2025 and concluding in December 2025 

We are seeking a kaiako to deliver our new Certificate in Digital Media and Design programme, which involves, but is not limited to: developing lesson plans, delivering quality lessons to tauira (students), responding to tauira learning needs, and evaluating tauira progress.

This Digital Media & Design programme offers tauira the opportunity to gain practical experience producing creative digital media outcomes using digital tools, software and technology, through a mātauranga Māori lens.This is one of our innovative pilot programmes, so you will provide ongoing feedback about the course and be supported to deliver a quality educational experience for our tauira.

Mōu | About you

You will be someone who has extensive knowledge in key areas such as graphic design fundamentals, Mātauranga Māori design philosophy and tikanga, online media design, and portfolio design. This role involves integrating cultural and ethical considerations that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi, reflecting Te Ao Māori and Pacific perspectives throughout the programme. As kaiako of this programme you must possess advanced skills in digital media, experience at using industry digital software and tools, and a strong understanding of indigenous pedagogies.

The right candidate will have a passion for supporting tauira success, as well as possess strong communication skills, cultural awareness, and adaptability.

Ideally you will:

  • Hold a Diploma Level qualification in Digital Media and Design, or related subject, and
  • Be able to demonstrate holding or showing equivalence for NZQA standards assessed in this programme
  • Hold a Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) or equivalent
  • Have a full and current NZ Driver’s Licence (Class 1)
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in teaching Digital Media or related field
  • A strong portfolio showcasing a range of professional work in graphic design, online multimedia design and Mātauranga Māori design philosophy and tikanga
  • Ability to integrate practical experience with academic instruction

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
