Kaiako – Certificate in Rongoā (Level 4)

Mō tēnei mahi (About this job)

We are looking for an experienced rongoā practitioner who is eager to share their knowledge with others and to support the delivery of our Rongoā Māori programme. This permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) role starts in January 2025.

The Certificate in Rongoā programme focuses on the protocols and customs of rongoā, aiming to develop an understanding of the Māori worldview. As the Kaiako of this programme, you will bring both extensive experience in rongoā practice and previous teaching experience.

Mōu (About you)

The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge and experience in the origins, cultural principles, and practices of rongoā Māori, including indigenous plant species (identification, classification, health & safety, and kaitiakitanga). You will be adept at implementing methodologies that cater to diverse student learning styles and have experience with traditional Māori healing methods or other relevant work related to Rongoā Māori.

Ideally, you will hold a Diploma in Rongoā Māori or Hauora Māori (or an equivalent qualification) and an adult teaching qualification or be committed to obtaining these qualifications. Previous adult teaching experience or a proven ability to teach adults is also desirable.

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
