We
are seeking a Kaiako to deliver our Certificate in Rongoā
programme, which involves but is not limited to developing lesson plans,
presenting material to tauira (students), responding to tauira learning needs,
and evaluating tauira progress.
You
will be responsible for recruiting and inducting tauira, implementing effective
teaching and assessment strategies, monitoring academic progress, and
maintaining accurate records in accordance with TWoA and NZQA requirements.
Creating a collaborative, inclusive and culturally grounded learning
environment will be essential to the success of this role.
This programme teaches the protocols and customs that surrounds rongoā, to develop and enable an understanding of the Māori world view. As the kaiako of this programme, you will be an experienced Rongoa practitioner with previous teaching experience.
This is a Permanent Full-time (37.5 hours per week) position, based out of the Kaitaia campus. Some flexibility will be required to work some weekends and evenings (for noho and night classes only)

You
will be a confident Kaiako that brings energy and creativity that shines
through in your delivery. You will have
sound knowledge and experience in the origins, cultural principles, practices and
their application for rongoā Māori, indigenous plant species (including
identification, classification, health & safety, kaitiakitanga), and
implement methodologies that support the diverse learning styles of students.
You will have experience using traditional Māori healing methods, or other
relevant work-related to Rongoā Māori
Ideally, you will have:
- Diploma in Rongoā Māori, Hauora Māori or equivalent qualification
- NZ Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) or equivalent, or be willing to complete during the first year of employment
- Experience teaching adults
- Full and current NZ Driver’s License (Class 1)
As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
