We are seeking a Kaiako to be a casual reliever for our He Pī Ka Pao & Te Pūtaketanga programmes. 

You will be responsible for recruiting and inducting tauira, implementing effective teaching and assessment strategies, monitoring academic progress, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with TWoA and NZQA requirements. Creating a collaborative, inclusive and culturally grounded learning environment will be essential to the success of this role.

This is a Casual position, based out of the Wānaka (Mt Aspiring College) campus.


Mōu | About you

You will be a confident Kaiako that brings energy and creativity that shines through in your delivery. Te Ara Reo Māori is a Reo Rua (Bi-lingual) programme, so you will need to be a confident speaker of te reo Māori and be familiar with delivering Ako Whakatere methodologies and techniques.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Diploma (Level 5) or higher in te reo Māori, or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • NZ Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) or equivalent, or be willing to complete during the first year of employment
  • Full and current NZ Driver Licence (Class 1)
  • National Certificate in Adult Literacy & Numeracy Education (Level 5)
  • Knowledge of Ako Whakatere methods of teaching, learning and delivery
  • Experience teaching te reo Māori
  • Experience teaching adults

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
