Mō tēnei mahi | About this job

We are seeking a Kaiako to deliver our Kāwai Raupapa Certificate in Māori and Indigenous Art Level 4 – Whakairo programme, which involves but is not limited to: developing lesson plans, presenting material to tauira (students), responding to tauira learning needs, and evaluating tauira progress.

You will be responsible for recruiting and inducting tauira, implementing effective teaching and assessment strategies, monitoring academic progress, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with TWoA and NZQA requirements. Creating a collaborative, inclusive and culturally grounded learning environment will be essential to the success of this role.

This is a Permanent Full-time position, based out of the Papaiōea campus. Some flexibility will be required to work some weekends and evenings.

 

Mōu | About you

 

The Kaiako (tutor) will have sound knowledge and teaching experience within the toi whakairo programme field to deliver our Kāwai Raupapa Programme. You will need to have the ability to facilitate application of principle and theory into contextualised practice, apply tikanga Māori appropriate to the Kāwai Raupapa programme, and be a critical, conceptual and self-reflective practitioner.

 

Ideally, applicants will have:

 

  • List subject qualifications, registrations, and experience for the programme.
  • Minimum qualification, Toi Paematua Diploma in Māori and Indigenous Art (Level 5) or equivalent
  • New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching Certificate Level 5 or equivalent
  • Either attest equivalence for NZQA standards required to assess and moderate this programme OR hold the NZ Certificate in Assessment Practice (L4)
  • Full and current NZ Driver License

 

Experience:

  • Minimum two years of proven experience teaching adult learners able to understand and converse in te reo Māori at an intermediate level

 

Whilst teaching experience is highly valued at TWoA, newly qualified Kaiako with relevant qualifications but with no or limited previous teaching experience will also be considered.

 

As a Kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable.
