Mō tēnei mahi | About this job

We are seeking a Kaiako to deliver our Maunga Kura Toi – Bachelor of Māori & Indigenous Arts (Rauangi) Level 7 programme, which involves but is not limited to: developing lesson plans, presenting material to tauira (students), responding to tauira learning needs, and evaluating tauira progress.

You will be responsible for recruiting and inducting tauira, implementing effective teaching and assessment strategies, monitoring academic progress, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with TWoA and NZQA requirements. Creating a collaborative, inclusive and culturally grounded learning environment will be essential to the success of this role.

The successful candidate is required to engage in Rangahau and to maintain currency of subject knowledge.

This is a Permanent, Full-time (37.5 of hours per week) position, based out of the Heretaunga campus in Hastings. Some flexibility will be required to work some weekends and evenings.


Mōu | About you

You will be a confident Kaiako that brings energy and creativity that shines through in your delivery. You will be someone who is an expert in the field of Rauangi or Visual arts, to deliver a world-class Toi Māori degree.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Masters’ in Māori Art, with a focus on Rauangi or related subject
  • NZ Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) or equivalent, or be willing to complete during the first year of employment
  • 3+ years’ experience in Māori visual arts
  • Experience teaching adults

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
