Mō tēnei mahi | About this job
We are currently seeking a creative, motivated, and enthusiastic Kaiako to join our team. This is a Permanent Part-Time (22.5 hours per week) position, based at our Māngere site.
As a kaiako, you will facilitate our Secondary Tertiary Programmes (STP), STAR Short Courses and other workshops designed for secondary school and alternative education tauira. These programmes are partnerships between tertiary education organisations and schools, that aim to enhance the secondary school curriculum, and/or meet the needs to tauira at risk of disengaging from education, by raising their achievement levels and promoting transitions to further education, training, or employment.
This role will deliver across Toi Māori Design, Toi Māori Drawing, Whakairo and Visual Arts programmes, offering tauira the chance to learn through cultural connections and mātauranga
As a Kaiako, some of the key responsibilities will include:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the STP curriculum.
- Present material to tauira in an interactive and culturally sensitive manner.
- Assess and evaluate tauira progress to ensure ongoing improvement.
- Support tauira engagement in lifelong learning and development.
Mōu | About you
The right candidate will have a passion for supporting and guiding rangatahi from a wide range of backgrounds as well as possess strong communication skills, cultural awareness, and adaptability.
You will also bring with you:
- A Diploma Level 5 or equivalent in related field
- Level 5 Teaching Qualification.
- Level 5 National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education.
- Full NZ Drivers License (P class preferred but not essential).
- Unit standards, 4098, 11281, 18203.
As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
