Mō tēnei mahi | About this job

We are seeking a Kaiako to deliver our Te Aupikitanga ki te reo Kairangi Level 6 programme, which involves but is not limited to: developing lesson plans, presenting material to tauira (students), responding to tauira learning needs, and evaluating tauira progress.

You will be responsible for recruiting and inducting tauira, implementing effective teaching and assessment strategies, monitoring academic progress, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with TWoA and NZQA requirements. Creating a collaborative, inclusive and culturally grounded learning environment will be essential to the success of this role.

This is a Permanent, Full-time (37.5hours perweek) position, based out of the Tūkarere Campus in Tauranga. Some flexibility will be required to work some weekends and evenings.

Mōu | About you

You will be a confident Kaiako that brings energy and creativity that shines through in your delivery. You will need to have expert knowledge in ngā āhuatanga o te reo – grammatical structures within te reo Māori, whakamāori / whakapākehā - accurate translation, te orokohanga o te ao Māori – creation stories, kupu whakaniko – accurately identifying, interpreting and using metaphorical language, te hekenga mai o ngā waka – the great migration from Hawaiki to Aotearoa, aroā – examining and interpreting meanings, te marae, waiata and haka.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Diploma in Te Reo Māori Level 7
  • NZ Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) or equivalent, or be willing to complete during the first year of employment
  • Experience teaching total immersion
  • Regular engagement or immersion in ngā kaupapa Māori
  • Experience teaching adults
  • Full and Current NZ Drivers License (Class 1)

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
