Location: Mangakōtukutuku Campus, Kirikiriroa
Hours: Full-time, 37.5hrs per week

Tenure: Permanent

As a Kaiako, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality te reo Māori programmes (Levels 3 & 4) using full immersion teaching practices grounded in tikanga Māori, whanaungatanga and ako.
  • Create engaging learning experiences by planning lessons, developing resources and adapting delivery to meet diverse tauira learning needs and goals.
  • Support tauira success end-to-end, including induction, assessment, progress monitoring, retention strategies and achievement of educational outcomes.
  • Embed te ao Māori throughout teaching practice, demonstrating fluency in spoken and written te reo Māori and strong knowledge of āhuatanga Māori, pūrākau, whakapapa and iwi contexts.
  • Maintain academic quality and compliance, including assessment, moderation and administration aligned with NZQA and organisational requirements.
  • Contribute to a collaborative kaupapa Māori environment, participating in hui, wānanga, pōhiri, tauira recruitment and wider kaupapa of the wānanga.

 

Mōu | About you

We are looking for someone who has the following:

  • A Level 5 qualification (or higher) in te reo Māori, with adult tertiary teaching and assessment credentials (or ability to attain them within 12 months).
  • Proven experience teaching te reo Māori in full immersion, ideally with adult learners.
  • Strong planning, communication and reflective practice skills, with a genuine commitment to tauira success and professional growth.
  • A full NZ Driver Licence and the flexibility to support learning activities such as noho, wānanga and field trips.

 

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable.
