Kaiako - Te Reo Māori
We have fixed-term opportunities for flexible Te Reo Māori Kaiako practitioners to join our team in Te Ara Reo Māori (TARM) Level 1&2 for 1 year.
We have several corporate classes, and open classes, being delivered from August onward, and need Kaiako to be the face of these programmes.
Sometimes people want to give back to the revitalisation of Te Reo Māori, but can’t commit to full-time, and usually have full-time jobs they enjoy already!
So... We are open to your flexibility e hoa mā. Let us know what works for you! Whether it’s full-time, part-time, contracting or casual, we’re open to your availability to join our whānau in delivering TARM for one year.
About the role
Te Ara Reo Māori is our dedicated space for teaching Te Reo Māori for beginners. These programmes offer all New Zealanders, with any level of ability, an opportunity to learn Te Reo and deepen their understanding of our indigenous culture.
As a Kaiako in Te Ara Reo Māori, you will need to hold a Te Reo Māori qualification one level above the programme you’ll be teaching. We'd also love it if you had some Tertiary Teaching qualifications, but we'll also consider those who are passionate about Te Reo Māori and giving back to the people.
The programme is delivered through a mixture of our unique learning experiences, consisting of:
- Kura Whakaako - Face to face delivery
- One day Wānanga - Whole day, face to face, delivery
- Noho Marae - residential (overnight) sessions based on a Marae (or relevant)
- Activity directed learning - work provided for learning without a Kaiako
This means that you may need to be available for some weekend work, and overnight commitments for noho marae a few times within the year. However, we are open to discussing the expectations in the interview if you are shortlisted.
To be successful for this role, you will:
- Hold a Diploma Level 5-7 in Te Reo Māori (or higher)
- Hold a Tertiary Teaching Qualification at Level 5
- Have experience in a similar role
- Be able to converse confidently in Te Reo Māori
