Location: Tauranga
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Tenure: Permanent
As a Kaiako you will:
- Deliver immersive te reo Māori programmes (Level 5) that strengthen grammatical accuracy, language patterns and cultural understanding within a kaupapa Māori learning environment.
- Design engaging, learner‑centred lessons that respond to tauira needs, goals and reo development, using a variety of teaching methods and resources.
- Support tauira progression and retention, providing guidance, feedback, intervention strategies and academic support to help tauira achieve successful outcomes.
- Facilitate noho, wānanga and collaborative learning experiences, ensuring safe, well‑planned and culturally rich delivery.
- Assess, monitor and report on tauira progress, maintaining accurate records, moderation requirements and compliance with NZQA and organisational standards.
- Contribute positively to the kaupapa of the wānanga, supporting recruitment, community engagement, pōwhiri and wider kaimahi initiatives
Mōu | About you
We are looking for someone who has the following:
- Strong fluency in spoken and written te reo Māori, with a Level 5–7 qualification in te reo Māori, Mātauranga Māori, or equivalent experience (including recognised endorsements where applicable).
- Adult tertiary teaching and assessment credentials (or willingness to attain within 12 months) and a
- Experience teaching te reo Māori in a full‑immersion adult learning environment (or the capability to step confidently into this space).
- Sound knowledge of intermediate–advanced reo concepts, including grammar, metaphorical language, pūrākau, kōrero nehe, dialects and marae contexts.
- Excellent communication, organisation and relationship‑building skills, with a tauira‑centred approach to learning
- Full NZ Driver Licence and the flexibility to support learning activities such as noho, wānanga and field trips
As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable.
