Mō tēnei mahi | About this job

We are seeking a Kaiako to deliver our Te Tohu Tiaki Taonga Level 5 programme, which involves but is not limited to: developing lesson plans, presenting material to tauira (students), responding to tauira learning needs, and evaluating tauira progress.

You will be responsible for recruiting and inducting tauira, implementing effective teaching and assessment strategies, monitoring academic progress, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with TWoA and NZQA requirements. Creating a collaborative, inclusive and culturally grounded learning environment will be essential to the success of this role.

This is a Permanent, full-time (37.5 of hours perweek) position, based out of the Mangere campus. Some flexibility will be required to work some weekends and evenings (for noho and night classes only)


Mōu | About you

You will be a confident Kaiako that brings energy and creativity that shines through in your delivery. You will need to have specific industry skills in the preservation, protection, and archiving of our taonga tuku iho, both physical and digital through a Te Ao Māori lens. The kaupapa of preserving and archiving taonga tuku iho is multi-faceted and draws on many different bodies of knowledge, so you will need to be knowledgeable in these areas.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A Bachelor in Mātauranga Māori (Level 7) related to taonga/tikanga/NZ history/anthropology. Other qualifications will be considered, alongside demonstrated lived experience
  • NZ Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) or equivalent, or be willing to complete during the first year of employment
  • Full and Current NZ Driver Licence (Class 1)
  • Experience working with iwi, hapū, or marae projects; and
  • Experience teaching adults

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
