Location: Ngāmotu

Hours: 37.5 per week

Fixed Term: July – December 2026

 

As a Kaiako, you will:

  • Deliver the Certificate in Māori & Indigenous Art, facilitating practical, creative learning experiences grounded in kaupapa toi and mātauranga Māori.
  • Design and deliver engaging, hands‑on lessons, using a range of artistic media, materials and processes that respond to tauira abilities and learning needs.
  • Create a supportive, inclusive learning environment, encouraging participation, confidence and creative expression for diverse adult learners.
  • Assess, monitor and support tauira progress, providing feedback, intervention strategies and encouragement to support retention, achievement and graduation.
  • Manage programme delivery and reporting requirements, including assessment records, attendance, use of learning platforms and compliance with organisational processes.
  • Contribute positively to the kaupapa of the wānanga, participating in hui, pōwhiri, recruitment activities and wider kaimahi initiatives when required.

 

Mōu | About you

We are looking for someone who has the following:

  • qualification in Visual Arts (Level 5 or equivalent) with a focus on XXXX, alongside a Level 5 adult teaching qualification (or the ability to achieve this within 12 months).
  • Proven experience in the Māori art world, with specific skills and knowledge in kaupapa toi and Indigenous creative practice.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written te reo Māori, with a strong understanding of āhuatanga Māori, tikanga and cultural values.
  • Experience teaching adult learners, with the ability to build strong relationships and motivate tauira through creativity.
  • Confidence using a variety of media, hands‑on processes and digital learning tools to support learning.
  • full NZ Driver Licence and the flexibility to support delivery requirements across learning environments.

 

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable.
