Mō tēnei mahi | About this job

We are seeking a part-time Kaiāwhina to support the delivery of our kaupapa Māori programmes in Wellington. This is a permanent, part-time (15 hours per week) position based in Wellington, providing essential support to the Kaiako (Tutor) in the delivery of subject knowledge and the day-to-day running of the programme.

As a Kaiāwhina, you will assist with preparing teaching resources, general administration, and classroom coordination. Your contribution will help ensure a positive and effective learning environment for our tauira (students). This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is organised, supportive, and confident in applying Tikanga Māori within a learning environment.

Mōu | About you

You will be reliable, culturally grounded, and enjoy working in a collaborative and kaupapa Māori environment. Your proactive, helpful approach and commitment to the success of tauira will be key to your success in this role.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A School Leavers Certificate (minimum qualification)
  • Ideally studying towards or holding a qualification one level above the programme being taught (e.g., Te Ara Reo for assisting in Te Ara Reo classes)
  • At least one year of experience in a similar support role (preferred)
  • A strong understanding of and commitment to Tikanga Māori and Āhuatanga Māori
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • A team-focused attitude and a willingness to learn and contribute

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
