Mō tēnei mahi | About this job

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Kaimanaaki Tauira (Pastoral and Teaching Support) to join our team in a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) basis, reporting to Raroera Campus but based in Cambridge.

In this rewarding role, you’ll be supporting tauira who need it most to build essential literacy, numeracy, and life skills, giving them the confidence and tools to re-engage with secondary schooling or take their next step into further education, training or employment.

Your day-to-day will involve:

  • Working one-on-one with tauira to identify barriers and create personalised pathways to success
  • Connecting tauira with social, health, education, and employment services to meet their wider needs
  • Providing teaching relief when required, helping to create a safe, engaging learning environment

This role is about more than education – it’s about believing in young people, meeting them where they are, and helping them discover what’s possible.

Mōu | About you

If you’re someone who leads with heart, resilience, and a genuine commitment to youth development, we’d love to hear from you.

You will also bring with you:

  • Diploma (Level 5) or equivalent in Teaching, Social Services, or a related field
  • National Certificate in Youth Work (Level 3/4), Social Services, Health, or a related field
  • National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy (Level 5)
  • Unit Standards 4098, 11281, and 18203

  • Full, clean New Zealand Drivers’ Licence (P-class licence preferred)
  • 2+ years’ experience teaching youth (15–19-year-olds) or working within Alternative Education, Social Work, or a related field
  • Strong understanding and experience working with the Education Act, policies, and procedures

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
