Kaiwhakarite – Administrator
• Fixed Term – commencing as soon as possible until 18
December 2026
• Based in Whangārei
• Working hours: 8.00am – 4.00pm
Mō mātau | About us
As a proudly indigenous tertiary educator, ‘tauira success’ is our mission and ‘whānau transformation through education’ is our vision, guiding our commitment to delivering quality education programmes underpinned by Māori culture and values.
Mō tēnei mahi | About this job
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, organised and people-focused Kaiwhakarite - Administrator to join our Whangārei team.
As the Kaiwhakarite - Administrator, you will be the welcoming face of our organisation, providing a positive and professional experience for tauira (students), kaimahi (staff), stakeholders and visitors. You’ll play an important role in keeping our site running smoothly and providing administrative support across a range of areas.
This is a varied role where you will work with a range of people and manage different priorities throughout the day. You’ll need to be comfortable learning new things, working with different stakeholders and taking responsibility for your own workload.
You don’t need to have extensive administration experience — we are happy to provide training and support to the right person. What is important to us is that you are a quick learner, communicate clearly and respectfully, and are willing to ask questions and seek support when you need it.
You will work closely with the Operations Manager and wider team, so honesty, reliability and a willingness to work collaboratively are important. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, is proactive and is keen to become a valued member of our team.
You will support a range of day-to-day administrative tasks, including requisition processes, maintaining site resources, supporting events and helping ensure the smooth operation of our site.
Mōu | About you
We are looking for someone who is organised, approachable and professional, with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
You will also bring with you:
• A willingness to learn and the ability to pick up new
systems and processes quickly
• Clear, professional and respectful written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to work confidently with a range of people and stakeholders
• The ability to manage competing priorities and stay organised in a busy
environment
• The ability to work autonomously while knowing when to ask questions and seek
support
• Honesty, reliability and a strong sense of accountability
• A proactive approach and willingness to get stuck in
• Basic computer skills and confidence using Microsoft Office; experience with
Outlook, Excel and Word would be an advantage
• A Full New Zealand Driver Licence; the ability to drive a manual vehicle
would be an advantage
• An ability to understand and use basic te reo Māori phrases, mihi and
greetings
• A willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop your
understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga)
This role has a physical component, so you will also need to be comfortable with tasks that involve some lifting and moving of resources.
Most importantly, we are looking for the right person. You don’t need to know everything when you start — we will provide training and support to help you learn the role. What matters to us is that you are honest, willing to learn, communicate well, ask questions when you need help and take pride in doing a good job.
He aha ai mātou? | Why join us?
This is an opportunity to work somewhere that is different from a traditional corporate environment. We are a wānanga, and our people and whānau are at the heart of what we do.
In return, you’ll get:
• A welcoming and relaxed working environment
• A supportive team of kind and approachable people
• Plenty of training and support to help you learn the role
• The opportunity to work in a kaupapa Māori environment
• The opportunity to build your administration skills and gain experience
across a range of areas
• The opportunity to work alongside a team who genuinely want to see you
succeed
If you’re someone who enjoys working with people, is keen to learn, can manage a busy workload and wants to be part of a supportive team, we’d love to hear from you.
