Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest tertiary education organisations and a leader in indigenous education, deeply grounded in mātauranga Māori, tikanga Māori, and te reo Māori. Our unique purpose, guided by Te Kaupapa Matua, shapes how we work, how we lead, and how we serve our tauira, whānau, hapū and iwi.

We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Manager – Property Asset Management and Planning to join our Rangatahua team within Te Puna Manaaki. This is a pivotal specialist role responsible for strengthening asset productivity and performance across a diverse national property and facilities portfolio.

Reporting to the Lead – Property, you will provide expert leadership in asset management planning, facilities optimisation, and capital and maintenance strategy. Your work will directly influence long-term asset sustainability, cost efficiency, and service delivery excellence across owned and leased properties, infrastructure and fleet assets.

This role plays a critical part in shaping Te Wānanga o Aotearoa’s Facilities Asset Management Plans, infrastructure strategies, spatial and asset data planning, and investment decisions. You will lead the development of robust asset information and analytics, ensuring asset condition, risk, criticality and whole-of-life cost considerations are embedded into decision-making.

You will also work closely with takiwā operations teams, facilities specialists, service providers and external stakeholders to drive proactive, condition-based maintenance approaches and improve asset reliability, and performance. This is an opportunity to influence at both strategic and operational levels, contributing to organisational performance while upholding the mana and kaupapa of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.

 

Mōu | About you

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience in asset management, maintenance planning and performance optimisation across complex property portfolios
  • Strong capability in asset management systems, condition assessments, data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Sound understanding of International Infrastructure Management Manual (IIMM) and NAMS frameworks, building code requirements, and service‑based procurement
  • Financial acumen, with experience contributing to Opex, Capex and long‑term capital and maintenance planning
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills across internal teams, contractors and external stakeholders
  • A relevant bachelor’s degree and a full NZ Class 1 Driver Licence
  • Experience in asset management in a Tertiary Education setting would be a bonus.

 

You will also demonstrate:

  • Alignment with Te Kaupapa Matua and a genuine commitment to tikanga Māori and te reo Māori in the workplace
  • Willingness to participate fully in cultural activities and uphold the mana of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa
