Senior Programme Manager

12-month fixed term | Parental leave cover

Te Pae Tawhiti 2030 is the organisational strategy for Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and represents a significant programme of transformation across how we work, how we support our kaimahi, and how we deliver for our tauira and communities.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Programme Manager to join our Te Pae Tawhiti transformation team on a 12-month fixed-term basis, providing parental leave cover.

Mō tēnei mahi | About this job

This is a senior programme leadership role providing oversight and direction across a complex portfolio of interconnected transformation activity.

You will lead the planning, sequencing and coordination of transformation workstreams, maintaining a clear line of sight across delivery, dependencies, risks and benefits. Working closely with the Director of Transformation, senior leaders and programme teams, you will help ensure our transformation activity remains connected to organisational priorities and focused on delivering meaningful outcomes.

A significant part of the role is creating clarity across complexity. You will identify and manage interdependencies across programmes, surface systemic risks and constraints early, and ensure leaders and governance have the information and advice they need to make timely decisions.

You will also play an important role in strengthening programme delivery practice across Te Pae Tawhiti, supporting teams to work in adaptive and outcomes-focused ways and ensuring benefits remain connected to delivery throughout the transformation lifecycle.

The role has significant exposure to senior leadership and governance and requires someone who can move comfortably between the strategic and the practical.

Mōu | About you

You will be an experienced programme or transformation leader who has operated across large, complex programmes with multiple workstreams and significant organisational interdependencies.

You will bring strong programme leadership fundamentals alongside the judgement and pragmatism required to work in an environment where priorities and circumstances continue to evolve.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Substantial experience leading complex transformation programmes or portfolios
  • Strong strategic planning, sequencing, risk and dependency management capability
  • Experience working effectively with executive leaders and governance
  • An outcomes and benefits-focused approach to programme delivery
  • Experience with agile, adaptive or hybrid approaches to delivery
  • Excellent written communication and the ability to turn complex information into clear advice and decisions
  • Strong relationship and influencing skills, including the ability to work across different professional and organisational perspectives

Our kaupapa

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is a kaupapa Māori organisation. How we undertake transformation matters as much as what we deliver.

Our work is grounded in Kaupapa Matua and Ngā Uara: Te Aroha, Te Whakapono, Ngā Ture and Kotahitanga. We are looking for someone who will demonstrate genuine commitment to these values through the way they lead, work and build relationships.

You will be committed to developing your understanding and everyday use of te reo Māori and āhuatanga Māori and to working in ways that protect and enhance the mana of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.

Why this role

Te Pae Tawhiti is well into delivery. This is not a role where you will spend your first six months designing a transformation programme on paper.

You will join an established team working across significant organisational change, with the opportunity to influence how work is prioritised, connected and delivered over the next phase of Te Pae Tawhiti.
